3rd Annual S.I.S. Retreat – VOICES 2011

St. Charles, MO – Sisters Impacting Sister (S.I.S.) will hold their 3rd Annual S.I.S. Retreat- VOICES 2011 on April 16th from 10am to 3pm at Connections to Success in St. Charles. The event will focus on two issues that impact children -suicide and violence against women, both issues tragically affect children.

This year S.I.S. is partnering with Communities Healing Adolescent Depression and Suicide (CHADS) Coalition and Chuck Alphin’s Building Life Foundation Nonviolence Center. Alphin will share about Kingian Nonviolence, a philosophy and methodology that provides the knowledge, skills, and motivation necessary for people to pursue peaceful strategies for solving personal and community problems. Marian McCord, Executive Director of CHADS, will speak about suicide prevention and awareness.

S.I.S. Mentors is a group of professional women who volunteer their time and talents to mentor young ladies between the ages of 11-18. S.I.S. participates in a variety of activities to promote self esteem and community service. The 2009 Community Action Project was recognized by Dress for Success Worldwide for having a significant impact on the community. In the first year S.I.S. awarded one college scholarship. After receiving a grant from the Athena Foundation in 2009, they were able to award four scholarships last year. Currently applications are being accepted for this year’s scholarships.

S.I.S. was created by Jana Gamble after she attended the Success Summit, a leadership forum offered to Professional Women’s Group (PWG) members. PWG is a program of Dress for Success. Ms. Gamble led her fellow PWG members in a Community Action Project – the first S.I.S. Retreat – in 2009. Ms. Gamble has a passion for working with youth. She has been involved in youth Ministry at Church on Rock in St. Peters, MO since 2006.
